Members of an Atlanta street gang were filmed beating a man who was brutally assaulted because "faggots" were not allowed in their neighborhood, according to a videotape of the apparent hate crime. The 30-second clip, posted today to the Worldstar Hip Hop web site, was shot outside a grocery store in Atlanta's Pittsburgh neighborhood. The business, located at 1029 McDaniel Street SW, is a popular congregating spot for members of the Pittsburgh Jack City Gang (or "PBJC"). The group has also used the name "Jack City 1029." After being provided a link to the video, an Atlanta police spokesperson told TSG that the clip had been forwarded to the department's gang division as well as the unit that investigates bias crimes against the LGBT community. Officer Kim Jones added that she was researching whether a police report was generated at the time of the attack. As seen above, the video opens with an unseen cameraman and a second man outside the grocery store. The second man announces, "Round one. Jack City. No faggots." Then, after a diminutive man exits the grocery, an assailant approaches him from behind and delivers a brutal punch to the side of the victim's head. The man's cell phone flies from his hand and he crumples to the ground. The victim is then set upon by three men who punch and stomp him while he tries to cover his head. Another citizen video emerged showing a police officer tasering a mentally-ill man who posed no threat to him. But am I the only one who finds it disturbing that the videographer is not only hoping the man would get tased, but then sounds ecstatic when he actually does get tased? I'm sure he was elated that he caught the cop in the act of tasing a mentally ill man; a sure hit for Youtube. But I really have to stress it to these citizen journalists -- the more you control your emotions, the less distracting you will be on video. In other words, either keep your mouth shut or provide a simple narration of what is happening with some quick background of what took place before you started recording. This is not a game. Save the cheering for the sports bar. Or at least until after it's posted on Youtube. The incident took place in Prescott, Arizona over the weekend and has already been covered by the local newspaper as well as the Fox News affiliate in Phoenix. The mentally ill man was apparently asking for change and talking nonsense to customers walking out of the restaurant. Cops were called and told him to hold his arms out, which he did. The cop told him to turn around, which he didn't do. The cop had no choice but to teach that mentally ill man a lesson in respecting his authority. He ended up tasing him twice.
